New Delhi, Sept. 13 -- India and South Africa took steps to enhance their strategic relationship during the 18th BRICS Summit, which concluded here in New Delhi, where both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasised trade, investment, critical minerals, and economic cooperation in their bilateral relations.

On Sunday, while speaking, President Ramaphosa lauded India's leadership role in managing the affairs of the BRICS group, helping to reach consensus and agree on the New Delhi Declaration, despite many doubts about the possibility of achieving such a consensus.

"In this BRICS Summit, we were able to adopt a declaration when many thought that we would not succeed in adopting a declaration. We did. In that regard, we congratulate all BRICS members, but also especially India for hosting a very successful BRICS Summit," Ramaphosa commented.

Economic engagement was an important issue that formed the core of bilateral talks between India and South Africa. Economic engagement included trade and investment, which was one of the primary topics of discussion where both countries explored means to enhance their economic engagement.

Critical minerals formed an important strategic aspect of the conversation, especially in light of their utility for electric cars, batteries, renewables, and advanced manufacturing.
