Shimla, Aug. 17 -- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday flagged off 25 new Type-I electric bus services of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) for Mandi district, marking the second phase of EV induction in the state.

The government had earlier procured 297 Type-I electric buses, which are operating across several districts. Sukhu said the buses have a prescribed range of about 180 km at 80 per cent charge, while one bus on the Shimla-Chandigarh route covers around 270 km on a single charge. He said electric buses were saving HRTC about Rs 12-13 per km in energy costs compared to diesel buses.
