Kolkata, Oct. 9 -- The Howrah-New Delhi and Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express trains are among several mail and express services cancelled ahead of a protest called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Saturday.

According to a directive issued by the Railway Board's Coaching Directorate on Friday, all mail and express trains scheduled to depart from their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9 and arrive at New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10 are to be cancelled at their originating stations.

Following the directive, Eastern Railway cancelled train numbers 12301 (Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express) and 12313 (Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express), both scheduled to depart on Friday.

The directive cited the likelihood of severe road traffic congestion around the two railway stations as the reason for the cancellations. However, it did not explicitly link the decision to the proposed protest.

The CJP has called the demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
