Kolkata, Sept. 4 -- The West Bengal Housing Board is gearing up for five new housing projects in Kolkata, Siliguri and Jalpaiguri that will provide homes to around 3500 families, Housing Minister Dipak Barman said on Friday.
In Thakurpukur, a 22-acre plot will be used for a "mega" housing project in south-west Kolkata. In New Town's Action Area I, 12 G+4 buildings will come up for middle-class and lower-income families. The stalled Sunray project in Action Area II, spread over 9.4 acres, will also be revived.
A seven-acre housing project is planned at Binnaguri in Jalpaiguri, while Phase IV of Himalaya Kanya at Dabgram will include a
planned G+7 tower.
The Board has also decided to sell 359 long-unsold flats from its old projects on a first-come, first-served basis through advertisements.
Existing flat owners will be allowed to apply for flats of their choice.
Barman said properties allotted in the 2024 and 2025 lotteries would be handed over immediately. The process for issuing NOCs for transfer of leasehold rights would be simplified and expedited. He said the government would offer Housing Board plots currently held on lease on a freehold basis.
The minister said steps were being taken to revive mechanised brick kilns at Palta in North 24-Parganas and Akra in South 24-Parganas, generating employment for around
6,000 people.
