Mumbai, Sept. 28 -- The CBI has filed chargesheet against five former promoters and directors of Acme Realties Private Limited and its holding company Acme Housing India Private Limited in an alleged homebuyers' cheating case linked to the "Acme Boulevard" project in Mumbai.
The chargesheet was filed before the ACJM (CBI Cases), 3rd Court, Esplanade Court, Mumbai, in connection with alleged fraudulent practices involving property at Majas village, Sarvodaya Nagar, Jogeshwari (East).
According to the CBI, its investigation found that the accused builder company and its promoters and directors allegedly induced homebuyers to invest by making misleading representations and subsequently obtained financial benefits through unlawful means.
The agency said it had gathered substantial evidence during the investigation and charged the accused under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and dishonest receipt of stolen property.
The case is part of a larger CBI investigation into alleged cheating of homebuyers and diversion of funds involving builder companies and financial institutions.
The agency is currently probing 32 cases registered following Supreme Court directions against various builders and unidentified officials of financial institutions across the country.
