Kolkata, Sept. 4 -- TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh has made a social media post stating that the Union Home ministry has directed West Bengal's Chief Secretary to "look into appropriately" the allegations and case concerning the temporary Assembly LoP Ritabrata Banerjee, following Ghosh's letter to Union Home minister Amit Shah.
The post consists of both the letter, written by Kunal Ghosh and the Home Ministry to the Chief Secretary.
In his July 31 letter, Ghosh questioned how a person facing "gross allegation" from a woman could be backed for the post of Leader of Opposition, and urged Shah to "remove Ritabrata Banerjee from LOP" and ask the state police to "reopen the matter soon".
He also sought an inquiry into whether Ritabrata had used political connections to influence the case.
The Home Ministry's August 3 communication to the Chief Secretary, cited by Ghosh, states: "As the issues raised by the Hon'ble MLA in his letter are concerned with the Government of West Bengal. the matter may please be looked into appropriately and a reply may please be sent
to the Hon'ble MLA."
Ghosh, in a fresh post, said he had submitted "all information, documents and photographs" related to the Balurghat woman's allegations and sought reopening of the case.
"I hope the state government will not try to shield Ritabrata
Banerjee," he wrote.
