Raiganj, April 19 -- In the run-up to the 2026 Assembly elections, Satyajit Barman, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate for Hemtabad in North Dinajpur district, has assured voters that a new police station and a separate block administrative office will be established in the constituency if he is re-elected.
Highlighting the party's commitments, local TMC leaders recently installed a 'Pratigya Stambha' (pledge pillar) at Runia More in Hemtabad. The pillar prominently displays written assurances, emphasising the party's focus on improving administrative infrastructure and law enforcement accessibility in the region.
According to party leaders, Hemtabad has long suffered from infrastructural challenges due to its geography. Dipankar Barman, president of the TMC's
Rampur Gram Panchayat unit, explained that the present Hemtabad Assembly constituency was formed after delimitation by combining seven gram panchayats from Raiganj block, attaching them to all five blocks of Hemtabad. As a result, residents often face difficulties in accessing essential administrative and policing services.
Satyajit Barman stated: "Thousands of residents still depend on the Raiganj Panchayat Samity office for administrative work. People living in areas close to the India-Bangladesh border also face significant challenges in reaching the existing police station due to distance.
These issues have been under consideration for some time."
He further stated that discussions regarding the establishment of a new police station and block office had already been held with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a few months ago. The proposed initiatives aim to address long-standing gaps in governance and improve service delivery for residents across the constituency.
TMC leaders expressed confidence that these initiatives would significantly improve public access to administrative services and strengthen law enforcement in remote and border areas of Hemtabad. They also believe that focusing on such developmental issues will work in favour of the party in the upcoming elections.
