Raiganj, June 9 -- Amid a spate of resignations in the state following the change in power, Hemtabad Panchayat Samity Sabhapati Sambhu Roy and Sahakari Sabhapati Sabina Begum submitted their resignations to Hemtabad

Block Development Officer (BDO) Biswajit Dutta on Monday afternoon.

The resignations have sparked concern among residents, with many fearing that the sudden resignation of two elected representatives may adversely affect the delivery of public services and developmental activities in the block.

In the 2023 Panchayat elections, the TMC secured a decisive victory in Hemtabad Panchayat Samity by winning 13 out of 15 seats, while the BJP managed to bag the remaining two seats. Following the formation of the board, Sambhu Roy was elected as Sabhapati and Sabina Begum as the Sahakari Sabhapati.

Speaking about the decision, Sambhu Roy said: "I have health-related problems. Very soon, I will have to visit Chennai for treatment. With my poor health condition, I am unable to visit my office on a regular basis. So, I resigned."

Sabina Begum cited family commitments for her resignation and stated: "At home, I have a small baby, I am spending time taking care of the child. So, I resigned."

Confirming the development, BDO Dutta said: "They have submitted their resignation, which will be forwarded to the higher authorities soon."

Meanwhile, Sabhadhipati of North Dinajpur Zilla Parishad Pampa Paul reportedly submitted her resignation, sending a message to Malda Range Divisional Commissioner Gulam Ali Ansari. State minister and Karandighi MLA Biraj Biswas, during his election campaign, had claimed on social media that Paul possessed a fake backward class certificate and had contested in the Zilla Parishad election and consequently was made Sabhadhipati.

Pampa Paul was not available for comments.
