India, Aug. 8 -- Gurugram was flooded on Friday after heavy rain, forcing most residents to stay indoors, firms to announce work-from-home, and schools to declare a holiday and resort to online classes. The Delhi-Gurugram Expressway was one of the worst hit. Golf Course Road was completely inundated in front of the Global Foyer Mall in DLF Sector 42. Waterlogging at several stretches led to long queues of vehicles. Dotted with luxury apartments and commercial buildings, the Golf Course Road was especially exposed with nothing to show for its upscaleness. A large section of the expressway near Cyber Hub, opposite the Gateway Tower Metro station, was submerged. Also exposed was the poor state of infrastructure in Rajendra Park, the Daultabad Industrial Area, and the surrounding colonies. Badshahpur received 74 mm, Wazirabad received 68.5 mm, and Kadipur and Harsaru each received 60 mm of rainfall. Several major intersections and service lanes, including Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Sohna Road, and the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, were waterlogged. Two labourers dead as school wall collapses Two labourers died on the spot after a private school wall here gave way following heavy rain on Friday, police said. According to the police, the incident occurred when the work on the school building's extension was underway in the DLF Phase-2 area. The two labourers were employed to remove old trees and plant new ones in their place. During heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon, they took shelter at the building when the dilapidated wall suddenly collapsed, the police said. According to the police, the deceased were identified as Suraj and Dayanand, residents of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh. A senior police officer said that the bodies were sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examination and a probe is underway.
