Kolkata, Sept. 25 -- The Calcutta High Court on Friday deferred hearing on a petition filed by the ISF challenging the ECI decision to allot the 'envelope' symbol to the Democratic Trinamool Congress for the October 6 bypolls. The matter will now come up on Monday.
The plea was heard by Justice Krishna Rao's bench. During an earlier hearing, the court had sought clarification from the ECI on whether the requisite notification had been issued before the symbol was allotted to the Democratic Trinamool Congress.
The ISF sought a freeze on the symbol, arguing that its use by another party could confuse voters.
The ECI said the registered unrecognised party had only been allowed temporary use of the symbol twice and could not claim exclusive rights over it.
