Kolkata, Sept. 2 -- The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail till September 10 to CPIM leader Md Lahek Ali, arrested in a Baruipur police station case, while directing the state to produce a pen drive containing his alleged "provocative and/or inciting" speeches.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh passed the order after noting that Ali had been in custody for about 50 days. The court was also informed that his mother, Najiman Bibi, was surviving on ventilation support.
According to the allegations recorded in the order, Ali had provoked and incited a group of persons involved in offences under Section 103(2) of the BNS. The state sought time to produce the recording.
Ali was granted bail on a Rs 20,000 bond with two Rs 10,000 sureties, one local. He cannot leave Baruipur police district and must appear before police when called.
