Kolkata, July 15 -- The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday barred any coercive action against TMC MP Mahua Moitra till the next hearing.

The bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharya court took up a petition filed by TMC MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday. As notice had not been properly served on the government pleader's office, the hearing was deferred.

Pending the next hearing, Justice Bhattacharyya verbally instructed the state's counsel that no coercive action should be taken against Moitra until the matter is heard by the court.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra had moved court seeking protection from coercive action in connection with an FIR registered after an altercation during her recent visit to Nadia district.

Moitra's counsel had argued that despite her complaint alleging that she was targeted during the incident, the police had instead proceeded on a counter-complaint and issued her a notice under Section 35(3) of the BNSS, requiring her appearance before the investigating officer.

The controversy stems from an incident on July 1 at Kaliganj in Nadia, where Moitra had attended a TMC organisational meeting. According to her complaint, a group of protesters assembled outside the party office carrying black flags and raising slogans.

During the demonstration, eggs and brinjals were allegedly hurled in her direction, prompting her to approach the police.
