Kolkata, June 29 -- The Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to serve notices on the bank and police authorities in its plea challenging the freezing of the party's bank accounts, with the matter likely to be taken up on Tuesday.

The petition was mentioned before the single bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who sought an urgent hearing. The court asked the petitioner to notify all the respondents before the matter could be heard, observing that if it was not taken up on Monday, it would be listed on Tuesday.

Amid the continuing dispute within the TMC, former minister and party treasurer Aroop Biswas wrote to a bank seeking restrictions on the operation of the party's accounts, citing uncertainty over its legitimate leadership amid rebellions by MLAs and MPs.

According to the submissions, the party received a communication from its bank informing it that the accounts had been frozen and that withdrawals and other debit transactions would not be permitted.
