New Delhi, Oct. 25 -- The Haryana government has taken a major step towards skill development and connecting young people with employment opportunities.

At an important meeting of the Standing Finance Committee chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the implementation and budgetary provisions for the PM-SETU (Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs) scheme, being launched in the state for the first time, were approved.

The primary objective of the scheme is to ensure maximum employment opportunities for skilled youth graduating from upgraded ITIs in the state and help them secure better salary packages in line with industry requirements.

At the meeting, the Chief Minister also approved the Kurukshetra Cluster project, estimated to cost approximately Rs 320.44 crore.

Meanwhile, the High-Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC), chaired by CM Saini, approved development works with a total negotiated value of Rs 219.91 crore during its meeting held in Chandigarh on Saturday.

Through negotiations, the state government achieved savings of Rs 18.81 crore against the quoted amount of Rs 233.68 crore, ensuring economicalutilisation of public funds. Local Bodies minister Vipul Goel was also present in the meeting.

The approved Urban Local Bodies projects cover municipal solid waste management, road construction and repair, water supply, sewerage, drainage, street lighting, green belts, parks and other urban infrastructure across the state.

Of the 13 Agendas presented in the meeting, 11 were passed while two were deferred.

Launching an attack on the Congress, Saini said that the party had 365 days of the year to hold a rally against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), but its decision to choose November 1 raises serious questions.

The Chief Minister said that November 1 is a day of mourning and remembrance for the Sikh community.
