Chandigarh, Aug. 5 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday said the revival of the Saraswati River is among the state government's top priorities, describing the river as a symbol of India's ancient civilisation and cultural heritage.
Chairing a meeting of the Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board at the Civil Secretariat, Saini reviewed the progress of the project and released a report on the Board's achievements. He directed officials to expedite all pending works, including those at Adi Badri, and ensure proper sanitation at religious sites in the Pehowa area.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that a 350-acre Saraswati reservoir is under development and excavation of 10 lakh cusecs of earth has already been completed. Saini also asked the Irrigation Department to accelerate the construction of the barrage, warning that delays or technical lapses would not be tolerated. The meeting also reviewed plans worth around Rs 56 crore for the beautification of the Prachi Saraswati tributary, construction of ghats, bridges, cultural facilities and riverfront infrastructure. Renovation of ancient temples, pond rejuvenation and a proposed museum and interpretation centre at Pehowa also formed part of the integrated development plan. mpost
