Kolkata, Oct. 30 -- The recent expressions of allegiance to Mamata Banerjee's MAITC by two legislators who had earlier joined Ritabrata Banerjee's camp have been followed by a series of administrative and police actions against them, triggering allegations of political vendetta by the Opposition.
Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahman, who recently declared Mamata Banerjee as his leader, was targeted by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who directed the police to reopen all old cases against him. Responding to the warning, Hamidul alleged that he was being targeted because he wanted to return to Mamata's camp. He challenged the government to take legal action if any case existed against him, maintaining that he had no pending cases and had already been acquitted in the Akbar Ali murder case.
Meanwhile, MLA Kajal Sheikh has faced a series of developments following his exchange of Bijaya greetings and sweets with Shovandeb Chattopadhyay in the Assembly. His security cover, which was increased from three to five personnel after he joined Ritabrata's camp, was withdrawn on Thursday. Later that evening, police raided his residence in Nanur in connection with alleged post-poll violence cases against his two nephews, Sheikh Humayun Hossain alias Philip and Sheikh Jahangir alias Lloyd. Police reportedly recovered a 7 mm firearm and seven rounds of ammunition from the house.
