India, Aug. 4 -- A 40-year-old psychiatrist was found dead after allegedly falling from the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment in Officers City 2 Society in Raj Nagar Extension on Monday. Police suspect suicide but said all angles are being investigated. The deceased, identified as Dr Hemika Agrawal, ran a psychiatric clinic near the Ghaziabad bus stand. She was the daughter of senior psychiatrist Dr R Chandra, a resident of Raj Nagar. The incident came to light after emergency helpline 112 received a call reporting that a woman had fallen from an upper floor of the residential complex. A police team reached the society and found Dr Agrawal lying on an internal road. She was declared dead at the spot. "She had divorced her husband around 18 months ago. Family members told police that she had been under depression since then and had stopped attending her clinic for more than a month," he said. Police said no suicide note was recovered from the flat. Forensic experts examined the scene and collected evidence for further analysis. A senior police officer said Dr Agrawal's estranged husband, who is also a doctor based in Delhi, had been involved in legal disputes with her following their separation. Police said Dr Agrawal had earlier filed a dowry harassment complaint against him at Kavi Nagar police station, while he had lodged an extortion complaint against her. Police are recording statements from family members, neighbours and others associated with the case to reconstruct the circumstances leading to her death. The post-mortem examination has been conducted, and the exact cause of death will be established after the report is received. No foul play has been established so far, police said, adding that the investigation is continuing.
