Kolkata, Nov. 1 -- Bengal Governor RN Ravi on Sunday, while addressing Foundation Day celebrations of states and Union Territories, organised under the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' initiative, said India's unity had endured despite centuries of changing rulers and political boundaries.
He cited the 1905 Partition of Bengal and the nationwide resistance that forced its reversal. Expressing concern that states formed for administrative convenience were increasingly becoming markers of regional identity, Ravi said India's civilisational consciousness transcended such boundaries.
Highlighting economic progress, he cited declining extreme poverty, rising patent filings, over 2.5 lakh start-ups and defence exports of around Rs 40,000 crore. The Governor felicitated 32 personalities settled in Bengal for their contributions across fields. Former Union minister Sisir Adhikari was also present at the event at Raj Bhavan.
