Gurugram, Sept. 14 -- Dharmbir Bhangrola and Anoop Singh were unanimously elected as Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, of the BJP-controlled Municipal Corporation of Gurugram on Monday after the posts remained vacant for 17 months.
Prior to the election, the BJP leaders deliberated for around five and a half hours, according to party sources.
While Anoop Singh is considered to be from MP Rao Inderjit's camp, Dharambir Singh is considered close to Haryana minister Rao Narbir.
Several development projects and administrative decisions in the city are expected to gather pace with these appointments.
Earlier, the councillors held meetings in separate rooms. Minister Mahipal Dhanda, MLA Mukesh Sharma, senior BJP leaders Sudha Yadav, Sandeep Joshi and Mayor Rajrani Malhotra held discussions with councillors.
Subsequently, the candidates for both the posts were finalised at the party office. Only councillors were allowed entry into the House meeting, while others were kept outside.
The administration had made elaborate security arrangements for the election.
