Kolkata, July 5 -- In a major breakthrough against organised crime, the Anti-Rowdy Section (ARS) of the Kolkata Police arrested alleged gangster Md. Feroz Khan, alias "Mini Firoz", on Saturday morning.
Feroz, who is alleged by the police to have been the "terror of Gulshan Colony", was apprehended at the Dankuni Toll Plaza while allegedly attempting to flee the state in a private vehicle. His close associate, Md. Sajid, was also taken into custody during the operation.
According to senior police officials, the latest crackdown was triggered by a fresh criminal complaint registered at the Topsia Police Station on June 23. The FIR, lodged following an alleged escalation in criminal activities, includes charges under the Arms Act for the unauthorised possession, brandishing and stockpiling of firearms. Police said Feroz has an extensive criminal record, with at least 37 cases pending against him at various police stations across Kolkata. According to law enforcement records, he has been accused in cases involving extortion, collection of protection money, illegal control over construction-related businesses, unauthorised parking rackets and large-scale power theft to operate illegal establishments.
Investigators also alleged that Feroz was the prime accused in the Gulshan Colony shootout and bombing case. During the violence, members of his alleged gang were purportedly captured on CCTV footage hurling crude country-made bombs, setting vehicles on fire and assaulting shop owners.
Following the incident, Feroz allegedly fled West Bengal but was later tracked through digital surveillance and arrested by a special Kolkata Police team near Ajmeri Gate in New Delhi. After being granted bail by a city court, police claim that he returned to his areas of
influence and resumed his criminal activities.
