
Chandigarh, June 29 -- Japan's Fukuoka Prefecture, where nearly 80 per cent of companies face a shortage of skilled technical workers, has sought Haryana's cooperation in training youth for employment in sectors such as semiconductors, automobiles, information technology and manufacturing.
The proposal was discussed during the Haryana-Fukuoka Connect 2026 meeting held at Haryana Niwas here on Monday. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in industrial investment, skill development, technical education and human resource development. Officials said both sides agreed to work towards providing employment, internship and skill development opportunities in Japan for around 50,000 students and technical professionals from Haryana over the next five years.
Foreign Cooperation Department Commissioner and Secretary Amneet P. Kumar highlighted Haryana's investor-friendly policies, industrial ecosystem and single-window clearance system. She said the state government was committed to deepening ties with Japan following Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's visit there last year.
Industries and Commerce Department Commissioner and Secretary Amit Kumar Agrawal said Haryana had established the Haryana Sakura Working Group and a dedicated help desk to support Japanese companies. He said the state plans to introduce Japanese language and technical courses in educational institutions.
Director General of the Foreign Cooperation Department Ashok Kumar Meena said Haryana would collaborate with Fukuoka in skill development, culture and sustainable development.
