Malda, July 8 -- Four residents of Birbhum district, including the husband of Sonali Bibi, returned to India through the Mahadipur India-Bangladesh border in Malda on Wednesday, months after they were allegedly pushed into Bangladesh following their arrest in Delhi.
"I am happy to return to my country. We suffered immensely during these months. I worked as a scrap collector in Delhi, but after this experience I will stay in my village and never go outside West Bengal for work again," said Sweety Bibi after crossing the border.
According to family members, Danesh Sheikh, Sonali Bibi's husband, along with three others, was arrested by Delhi Police from the Rohini area on June 22, 2025. The family claimed they were pushed into Bangladesh on June 25, where they were detained by Bangladeshi authorities as suspected illegal entrants.
Their relatives later approached the court seeking their return to India.
Sonali Bibi and her child had earlier been repatriated through the Mahadipur border on December 5, 2025. On Wednesday, Danesh Sheikh, neighbour Sweety Bibi (33), and her two minor children were also handed over to Indian authorities through the same border.
The group entered India at around 3:30 pm in the presence of the Border Security Force (BSF) and police personnel after completing the required formalities.
