India, Aug. 27 -- Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Wednesday highlighted forgiveness, compassion and responsibility towards the vulnerable as key lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad, while addressing a gathering in Bara Hindu Rao on Eid Milad-un-Nabi. "Power is not tested merely by the ability to punish; its higher test is whether one can forgive when one has the power to retaliate," Gupta said, referring to the Prophet's life and his decision to forgive despite having the opportunity to seek revenge. Recalling the persecution faced by Prophet Muhammad, including being pelted with stones, Gupta said the Prophet chose forgiveness after the conquest of Mecca despite having the strength and opportunity to retaliate. "He could have taken revenge, used his strength and settled scores, but he chose to forgive," he said.
