Kolkata, Sept. 16 -- Several eateries whose food licences were suspended by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) following a city-wide food safety crackdown have submitted compliance reports to the civic body, seeking revocation of the suspension orders, officials said.
The reports have been filed after the establishments carried out corrective measures pointed out during inspections. KMC officials are now examining the changes before deciding whether the suspended licences can be restored, civic sources said.
The KMC had recently suspended the FSSAI licences of 54 establishments following a week-long inspection drive. The establishments were barred from serving food till they comply with the directives.
According to KMC officials, inspections carried out after the establishments submitted their compliance reports showed visible improvements at a number of eateries. The civic authorities are verifying whether the deficiencies identified during the original inspections have actually been addressed before clearing the establishments to resume operations.
The process has already resulted in some eateries being allowed to reopen. Kareem's on Mirza Ghalib Street resumed operations on Tuesday, while Nizam's is expected to reopen soon after completing the required corrective measures.
Arsalan's Nagerbazar outlet is among the other establishments seeking permission to reopen. KMC officials said 10 restaurants inspected after making changes were found fit to resume operations, while around a dozen others remain under active consideration. The civic body is also separately processing compliance from sweet shops and other food establishments that were closed or served notices during the drive.
