New Delhi, Oct. 17 -- A fire broke out at an abandoned warehouse in Nazirabd, Narendrapur, on Friday night, nearly nine months after a blaze at two warehouses in the area killed 27 people. Four fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames. The fire was brought under control after several hours. No casualties were reported. The warehouse was among the two premises that caught fire on January 26. The blaze spread from a decorator company's warehouse to an adjoining momo manufacturing unit, killing 27 people. According to the company concerned, the warehouse had not been in use since the incident.

Sonarpur Uttar MLA Debasish Dhar visited the spot and said old materials, including oil-based substances, had been stored inside the warehouse and could have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. He suggested that the fire could have been a deliberate act of arson. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire. Fire brigade and police officials are also examining the damaged structure amid concerns that it could collapse.
