New Delhi, Oct. 14 -- The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) had assured its delegation that an FIR would be registered within 24 hours over the alleged assault on its female members by Delhi Police.
NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar visited Parliament Street police station on October 14 to demand registration of the FIR. The organisation said the DCP gave a verbal assurance that the case would be registered within the stipulated period.
Jakhar warned that the organisation would return to the police station on Thursday if the FIR was not registered within 24 hours. He said the allegations required a fair investigation and accountability.
"Our members were raising their voices, and they deserve justice, not violence," Jakhar said, demanding strict action against those responsible.
The NSUI said it would pursue the matter through democratic and legal means until the FIR was registered and appropriate action taken. The development comes amid allegations of police action against its members during protests.
