India, Aug. 8 -- More than 50 places in Faridabad were waterlogged on Saturday as relentless rain over the past 24 hours caused massive traffic jams and widespread disruption to daily life, while a large section of a culvert on Surajkund Road, between Sidhdata Ashram and MVN Road, caved in. According to the district administration, Faridabad received 120 mm rainfall from Friday 8 am till Saturday 8 am, exceeding initial estimates. From 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at several locations across the Faridabad district. Dayalpur recorded the highest rainfall at 21 mm, while Mohna and Gaunchhi received 15 mm each. Ballabgarh recorded 10 mm of rainfall, while Badkhal recorded 6mm of rainfall. Fortunately, no children were on board the bus, and the driver and staff climbed onto the roof to save themselves, while a 60-year-old man was stuck inside the car. Upon receiving information, police immediately rushed to their rescue. Friday's rain was so intense that water entered homes in Dayal Bagh, Sector 16, Sector 14, Vinay Nagar, and Old Faridabad areas. Among the 50 waterlogged areas were the DND-KMP Expressway service road, the Delhi-Agra Highway, as well as various residential colonies. Rainwater also flooded Maharajpur, Greenfield, and Gurukul railway underpasses, forcing the traffic police to close all four underpasses and halt vehicular movement. Waterlogging persisted throughout the day in more than 50 areas, including the National Highway at Mujesar Turn, Ajronda.
