Alipurduar, July 31 -- Two migrant workers from Alipurduar Block-II were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Pune, Maharashtra, just two days after arriving there for work, prompting their families to allege foul play and demand a fair investigation.

The deceased were identified as Chiranjit Basumatary (30) of Samuktala Basti and Amrus Oraon (32) of Uttar Mahakalguri. The two friends had travelled to Maharashtra in search of employment and reached Pune on Monday. They were found dead on Wednesday under circumstances that remain unclear.

Samuktala Police confirmed that an unnatural death case has been reported. Family members left for Pune on Thursday to complete legal formalities and gather details about the incident.

Rajshree Basumatary, wife of Chiranjit, said, "The contractor claimed that Chiranjit and Amrus argued after reaching Pune, leading to the tragedy. We do not believe that version."

Both families said the two had been close friends for years and ruled out the possibility of a personal dispute. They suspect the involvement of others and have demanded a thorough, impartial investigation to establish the truth.

Rintu Goon, BJP Vice-President of Kumargram Assembly Constituency Mandal No. 4, also demanded a proper investigation into the deaths.
