New Delhi, Oct. 25 -- The Delhi Police have arrested two cyber fraudsters including a B.Tech graduate, for allegedly being part of a cyber fraud gang that cheated more than 50 people by pretending to be bank officials, and using screen sharing for fake KYC procedures. The police were informed about the fraud through a complaint registered at the Cybe Shahdara Police Station. The accused were identified as Aftab Ansari (24) and Abdul Majid (23) from Jamtara district, Jharkhand According to the police, the accused were arrested after a 4-day operation under Cyber Police Station Shahdara. Three mobile phones were seized from the accused with WhatsApp chats of relevance.
The case was registered on September 23 after a complaint was filed by Taranjeet Singh about fraudsters contacting him via phone calls and WhatsApp claiming they were HDFC bank officials, and offering help with KYC updates. The accused tricked the victim into providing his credit card details. It was found during the investigation that a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra worth Rs 1,39,999 was bought using a disputed credit card transaction on JioMart. The item was delivered in Jharia in Dhanbad district. Using technical inputs provided by service providers, the police were able to trace where the product was delivered.
A trap was planned with the help of the delivery agent. The team delivered a false delivery of a mobile phone in an area the suspects had previously used. The accused turned up to claim the delivery and were arrested. The accused along with their accomplices posted on Facebook offering help with credit card KYC updates. They would gather personal information from online forms and target innocent people who are over 50 years
old. They would then persuade them to show their credit card details during a video call. This allowed the accused to see their OTPs and make unauthorised transactions.
