Kolkata, Sept. 20 -- For former Jadavpur MLA Debabrata Majumdar, it is still a mystery as to why his house was attacked on Saturday evening.
"I was at home when trouble broke out. It was around 7.30 pm. Hearing the chaos, I stepped out of my home. Some of them were locals, but most were outsiders. I could identify a couple of them who hurled bricks at our home in Bijaygarh. I never witnessed such an atrocity even during the Left regime. I tried to stop them but failed. They even assaulted my elder brother," he alleged.
"Luckily, we don't stay on the ground floor. My office is located there and the windows were targeted and broken. My super senior citizen mother was also in the house when the attack happened. The police came around 10 pm. But till now, I haven't heard of any arrests," he added.
However, the former MLA and former MMIC of the KMC did not speak to Mamata Banerjee about the issue.
Meanwhile, Basundhara Goswami, former councillor of Ward 96, said four party offices in her ward were damaged. "The incident happened as we had gone to Panchasayar Police Station on Saturday morning to lodge a complaint that 50 to 60 people were still staying out of their homes due to intimidation by the BJP," she said.
"Soon as we stepped out of the police station, we were attacked by goons. The police didn't act. It happened right in front of their eyes. Later, as we reached our party office, we found it had been ransacked," she added.
