India, July 27 -- Eastern Railway has strengthened security and crowd management arrangements at Jasidih railway station ahead of the month-long Sravani Mela, with around one lakh pilgrims expected to pass through the station daily en route to Baba Baidyanath Dham. Eastern Railway RPF Inspector General A N Sinha, accompanied by the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of Asansol Division, recently inspected the arrangements at Jasidih. He reviewed the passenger holding area, statiotn premises, foot overbridges, the RPF post and the overall surveillance network. The Inspector General also reviewed AI-enabled face recognition system cameras installed at strategic locations. Integrated with a database of known offenders, the system generates real-time alerts, enabling RPF personnel to identify and intercept suspicious or wanted persons.
A coordination meeting attended by railway officials, the Government Railway Police, local police and the civil administration discussed measures for crowd management, passenger movement and emergency response during the Mela. Addressing RPF personnel, Sinha directed round-the-clock crowd management, deployment of security escorts on Mela Special trains, operation of 24-hour passenger assistance and help desks, enhanced surveillance at vulnerable locations, and strict action against anti-social elements. Separately, Eastern Railway Additional General Manager Sheelendra Pratap Singh carried out a safety inspection of key railway installations and level crossing gates under Howrah Division. Accompanied by senior divisional officers, he inspected level crossing gates at Dankuni, Gobra and Balarambati, and reviewed operational and passenger facilities at Kamarkundu Railway station.
