New Delhi, May 11 -- The Embassy of Sweden, in collaboration with L'Opera - India's most authentic European patisserie and bakery house - launched the Alfred Nobel-inspired pastry, and dessert on the 4th of May at the Embassy of Sweden, created by L'Opera's Executive Chef, Kevin Duthel, as part of an evening celebrating art, science, and culinary creativity in tribute to Alfred Nobel.

Welcoming the guests, H. E. Jan Thesleff, the Ambassador of Sweden said "Every year, cafes and bakeries across Sweden create desserts inspired by the dessert served at the Nobel Prize Banquet. This year marks a special milestone as for the first time, a Nobel-inspired pastry has been created and launched in India." He added, "I hope this will be the beginning of a long-lasting tradition."

Starting Sunday, 10 May 2026, the Alfred Nobel-inspired pastry will be available across all L'Opera outlets. A portrait of Alfred Nobel was also unveiled on 4 May, followingwhich it was put on display at L'Opera Art Cafe Bikaner House.

L'Opera was chosen as the natural partner for this project for two reasons: its reputation as the most authentic European patisserie in India, and its celebrated culture of culinary creativity and excellence. It is this combination - rigorous European craftsmanship and genuine creative ambition - that made L'Opera the Ambassador's choice.

The pastry, conceived by Executive Chef Kevin Duthel, draws its inspiration from the new wave of Scandinavian gastronomy - hyper-local, ingredient-driven, and deeply rooted in Nordic terroir. The centrepiece flavours are sea buckthorn, cardamom, buckwheat, and an Assam tea cremeux - the last a deliberate bridge between the two nations. The triangle form, finished with a dark chocolate royal spray and a signature garnish bearing the initials AN in edible gold, reflects both Swedish design sensibility and the gravity of the occasion it honours.

"I knew where I wanted to go. Scandinavian gastronomy has been democratised over the last fifteen years - through chefs who championed a hyper-local approach. I had the flavours: berries, smoke, rye. The challenge was to build them, to harmonise them. For the design, I looked at the Swedish design culture - wood, warmth - and of course the Nobel theme, rendered in gold" said Kevin Duthel, Executive Chef at L'Opera.

Kazem Samandari, the Executive Chairman and co-founder of L'Opera added "We are deeply honoured to have been chosen by the Ambassador of Sweden, H. E. Jan Thesleff, to be part of this initiative" he then continued - "and to help begin what we hope will become anannual tradition."
