Noida, Oct. 22 -- Commuters travelling home to Ghaziabad and Greater Noida West faced lengthy traffic jams on Thursday after the Noida Authority closed one side of the elevated road for repairs without prior notice.
A late traffic advisory left office-goers struggling to reach their destinations, with several reporting delays of one to one-and-a-half hours.
The closure disrupted traffic during the evening rush hour, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes and adding to congestion on roads beneath the elevated stretch.
Commuters said the situation could have been managed better if the authority had informed the public at least a day in advance, allowing them to plan their journeys and avoid the affected stretch.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Syed Ali Abbas advised motorists travelling from Sector 61 towards Sector 15 to use the MP-2 road beneath the
elevated road.
They can then proceed via Gijhor Chowk and Sector 31/25 Chowk to reach their destinations.
Those travelling from Greater Noida West towards Sector 18 can take the route via Sector 52, City Centre and Sector 37. The road beneath the elevated stretch is another option, although police expect congestion there as well.
The closure has also renewed concerns over the elevated road's structural condition.
On September 15, 2026, a major structural failure led to the development of a pothole measuring around 20 feet in length and 10 feet in depth on a
section of the road.
Following the incident, Noida Authority officials initiated a technical investigation to determine the cause of the structural failure. However, the investigation report is yet to
be submitted.
