KOLKATA, May 25 -- Following a no-confidence motion against Piya Sengupta, a section of disgruntled members of EIMPA has appointed producer Ratan Saha as the interim president. A felicitation ceremony in his honour was organised at the EIMPA office in Kolkata on Monday, attended by veteran filmmaker Goutam Ghose along with Shyamal Dutta, Krishna Daga, Milan Bhowmik and Piyush Saha.
Saha said that fresh elections would be held within three months and promised a transparent process. Sengupta, however, remains firm in her stance. Addressing a press conference at the Press Club on Monday alongside her lawyer, she said that her tenure runs till 2027 and made it clear that she has no intention of resigning.
"There have been several allegations against Piya Sengupta. Members wanted her to step down, but she refused. Now, we want a fair and transparent election. She was selected as president, not elected," said Saha.
He also claimed that actors Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dev and filmmaker Srijit Mukherji congratulated him after the development.
On the other hand, Sengupta maintained that the previous election was conducted under the directions of the High Court. She also alleged intimidation by the disgruntled members during the May 22 no-confidence motion meeting. Sengupta said she would now seek legal recourse and would not bow to pressure from the newly appointed interim president.
