New Delhi, Oct. 24 -- Eggs were pelted at arrested Trinamool workers at Canning Police Station premises on Saturday, while two of them were allegedly assaulted as they were being taken to court. The incident followed the arrest of five people from the residence of Canning West MLA Paresh Ram Das on Friday.
Among those arrested was Tanmoy Debnath, who was targeted with eggs at the police station. Local residents staged a protest while the accused were being taken to court.
Police raided TMC MLA Paresh Ram Das's residence on Friday but did not find the legislator. Five people were arrested over alleged post-poll violence, assault and extortion. Police also linked them to the 2024 vandalism at Canning police station and the forcible removal of accused persons from its lock-up.
The BJP alleged that the MLA had gone into hiding to evade arrest. His whereabouts remained unknown.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Durgapur's Natun Pally, three youths allegedly arrived in a red four-wheeler late on Friday night and hurled bricks and stones at the houses of several Trinamool Congress workers. The incident reportedly triggered panic, with CCTV footage emerging.
House owner Sanjay Roy alleged that the attack was linked to his association with the TMC. BJP district spokesperson Sumanta Mondal condemned the incident and warned of action against those responsible, while claiming it stemmed from internal TMC rivalry.
