Kolkata, Sept. 21 -- The Calcutta High Court on Monday declined to urgently hear a fresh petition by Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra seeking protection following an alleged egg-pelting attack during her visit to the Krishnanagar constituency.
The matter was mentioned before Justice Saugata Bhattacharya, with Moitra's counsel informing the court that she faced egg pelting on September 16 despite an earlier order directing deployment of two police personnel to protect her from such attacks or similar incidents while in her constituency.
The counsel submitted that the fresh petition had been filed in view of the latest incident and said the matter had also been mentioned before a Bench headed by the Chief Justice on September 16, seeking urgent listing.
Justice Bhattacharya, however, declined the request for an urgent hearing, pointing out that the court had already passed an order on the issue. The court's case status indicates that the fresh matter is tentatively listed for September 22.
