Cooch Behar, April 16 -- The Election Commission has called for a report from the District Election Officer (DEO) regarding 14 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force falling sick in Cooch Behar.

Fourteen personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) fell ill after complaining of loose motion and body pain while deployed at Taliguri High School in Salbari-II Gram Panchayat under Boxirhat police station in Cooch Behar.

The personnel were rushed to the Tufanganj Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. According to official sources, 10 personnel were discharged after receiving medical care, while four were kept under observation.

Medical officers from the unit remained present at the hospital to monitor the condition of the affected personnel.

Later, the Deputy Force Commander (DFC) of Cooch Behar also visited the hospital and interacted with the admitted personnel as well as those discharged at the company location. Their condition is reported stable and they will be discharged soon.

The company had arrived at the deployment site from Nagaon in Assam on April 13. Preliminary assessments suggest that the illness may have been caused by dehydration during the long journey and the consumption of food prepared using contaminated water from an overhead tank.

Officials stated that precautionary measures have since been put in place. The civil administration, through the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, is now supplying potable drinking water to the personnel. The unit medical officer continues to monitor the situation closely.
