Kolkata, Oct. 25 -- Durgapur (West) BJP MLA Lakshman Chandra Ghorui on Sunday denied allegations of disproportionate assets and misuse of influence levelled by former party mandal president Dhrubajyoti Mukherjee, calling them a conspiracy to malign him.

He said he was ready to face any investigation and had lodged an FIR against those making false complaints. He also threatened to send a defamation notice. Mukherjee reportedly wrote to the Prime Minister's Office seeking action against Ghorui and said he would forward the complaint to the vigilance cell. He alleged that the MLA's assets had increased manifold since he took office and accused him of using his influence to secure jobs for his children, son-in-law, other relatives and the sons of close associates.

Describing Ghorui as an outsider who was looting Durgapur, Mukherjee further alleged that he had acquired several bighas of land and owned eight to 10 cars. Ghorui rejected the charges, including the allegation concerning his daughter, and challenged Mukherjee to substantiate the claims. "If my assets have increased even twofold, I will accept whatever punishment the party decides," he said, adding that he had earned money through various businesses.

He alleged that political rivals were using Mukherjee to target him out of jealousy over his rise. According to Ghorui's 2026 election affidavit, he declared assets worth around Rs 2.44 crore and liabilities of approximately Rs 32.69 lakh.
