New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- Dumdum Municipality's former vice-chairman and Trinamool Congress leader Barun Natta was arrested on Friday morning in connection with an alleged extortion and cheating case involving a local real estate developer. Police also arrested Nayanashis Das alias Johnny and Sumanta Ghosh alias Laltu, who are allegedly associated with Natta.

The arrests followed a complaint by developer Sujoy Majumdar, who alleged that he had paid around Rs 60 lakh to Natta between 2023 and 2024. Majumdar further alleged that Natta later demanded another Rs 20 lakh after making him bear the cost of a new SUV.

According to the complaint, when Majumdar refused to make the additional payment, work at his real estate projects in Dumdum was allegedly disrupted. Police are examining the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the disruption of the projects.

Majumdar had earlier raised the matter at Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's 'Janatar Darbar'. He subsequently approached Dumdum police station on Thursday and lodged a written complaint, following which a case was registered.

Natta was arrested from his residence, while Das and Ghosh were arrested from their respective homes.

Das is the son of former Dumdum Municipality Ward No. 3 councillor Parna Das. The three were produced before the Barrackpore court on Friday, with police seeking their custody.
