Raiganj, July 9 -- The district administration has announced a major drive to ease traffic congestion in Raiganj town by regulating Toto parking and removing illegal encroachments from pavements. The enforcement campaign will begin on July 13. Traders have been given time till July 12 to remove encroachments from the roads and pavements.
Traffic snarls near the railway level crossing and along the busy MG Road and NS Road have become a daily problem, causing inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. Officials identified indiscriminate parking of Totos and encroachment of pavements by traders as the reasons behind the congestion.
Sub-Divisional Officer of Raiganj and Administrator of Raiganj Municipality, Tanmay Banerjee, stated that a dedicated Toto stand has been earmarked near Raiganj railway station, while a limited number of authorised stoppage points have also been fixed across the town.
He added that traders have been instructed to remove goods displayed on pavements by July 12. From July 13, the administration will launch an enforcement drive to remove illegal encroachments, including unauthorised extensions of shops.
