Kolkata, Sept. 20 -- A low-pressure area over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression, triggering rain and thunderstorms across West Bengal through the week, the weather office said.
The system is moving west-northwestwards and is expected to intensify into a depression by Monday and further into a deep depression by Tuesday. It may move towards the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast by Wednesday morning.
Under its influence, several districts of South Bengal are likely to receive heavy rain from Tuesday to Friday. South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore and West Midnapore may receive heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds of 40-50 kmph. Orange alerts have been issued for these three districts, while yellow alerts remain in several other districts.
