India, Aug. 19 -- Delhi has recorded 246 dengue, 80 malaria and 19 chikungunya cases so far this year till August 14, with no deaths reported due to any of the three vector-borne diseases, according to the latest MCD report. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh had said on August 6 that 1,379 dengue cases were reported in the national capital till then. PTI reached out to Dr Ashok Rawat, Medical Health Officer, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), for an explanation on the discrepancy in the data, but no response was received. The weekly report suggests that the number of dengue and malaria cases reported so far this year is lower than the corresponding period in 2025, while that of chikungunya cases is also relatively low. In 2024, the figures stood at 374, 155 and 26 respectively. In the week ending August 14, the civic authorities reported 16 fresh dengue cases, nine malaria cases and three chikungunya cases. Of the 246 dengue cases reported this year, 223 were recorded in MCD areas, four within the New Delhi Municipal Council's (NDMC) jurisdiction, 13 in the Delhi Cantonment area and six in railway areas. Among the MCD zones, the West Zone reported the highest number of dengue cases at 40, followed by the Central Zone with 31 and Shahdara North with 24. Eighteen of the 19 chikungunya cases were reported from MCD areas. The report also recorded 86 dengue, 45 malaria and four chikungunya cases as having been acquired from outside Delhi. The addresses of 151 dengue, 43 malaria and eight chikungunya patients were either incomplete or could not be traced. Civic agencies have stepped up preventive measures to check mosquito breeding, with domestic breeding checkers visiting 2,38,89,821 houses till August 14. Mosquito breeding was detected in 91,217 households during these inspections, while 74,591 legal notices were issued for conditions conducive to mosquito breeding and 6,724 prosecutions initiated. The civic body also sprayed a larvicide at 3,20,731 houses as part of its vector-control measures. Larvivorous fish, which feed on mosquito larvae, were found surviving at 229 locations. In the corresponding period in 2023, Delhi had reported 653 dengue, 110 malaria and 16 chikungunya cases, while the figures in 2022 stood at 178, 39 and 13 respectively.
