India, April 24 -- In a major push towards artificial intelligence-driven growth, the Delhi government will establish two AI Centres of Excellence (AI-CoEs) under the IndiaAI Mission to promote innovation, strengthen the startup ecosystem, and generate employment. The initiative, led by the IT Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT), and GGSIPU, aims to position Delhi as a key hub for AI and emerging technologies. Each centre will be developed with a funding support of Rs 20 crore under a 40:40:20 model involving the Centre, Delhi Government, and industry or academic partners. According to officials, the AI-CoEs are expected to support around 100 startups, train over 7,000 individuals, and generate more than 1,000 jobs over a four-year period. The centres will focus on research, innovation, and scaling AI-based solutions while also strengthening digital governance. IT Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh said, "Delhi is taking a decisive leap into the future by investing in Artificial Intelligence for promoting innovation and economic growth. These AI Centres of Excellence will not only nurture cutting-edge research and startups but also ensure that technology meaningfully improves the lives of our citizens." He further added, "Through this initiative, we aim to build a robust pipeline of skilled AI professionals while enabling startups and innovators to solve real-world challenges." Officials said the centres will also focus on deploying AI-driven solutions in governance to enhance efficiency, transparency, and public service delivery, while building a future-ready workforce through training and capacity-building programmes.
