New Delhi, May 14 -- In a major push towards clean energy and sustainable urban mobility, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will launch a hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in the Central Vista area from May 15, 2026, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The initiative is aimed at strengthening last-mile connectivity between Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth Metro stations and key government offices in the Central Vista zone, encouraging greater use of public transport and reducing dependence on private vehicles.
The service, operated with support from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), will deploy two hydrogen-fuelled buses with a seating capacity of 35 passengers each. The buses will be equipped with GPS-based tracking and CCTV systems for real-time monitoring, safety and punctuality.
"The shuttle service will operate on all working days (Monday to Friday, excluding Gazetted Holidays) during peak office hours as per following timings, Morning: 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and Afternoon: 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM," the press release stated. The buses will run at a frequency of 30 minutes in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions, covering major government buildings and landmarks including Kartavya Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Akbar Road, Baroda House, National Stadium, National Gallery of Modern Art, India Gate and Seva Teerth Metro Station.
Fare payment will be enabled through the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), UPI and cash, with stage-wise ticket pricing fixed at Rs.10 and Rs.15. DMRC will manage operations, conductors, ticketing and passenger assistance, while IOCL will provide drivers and hydrogen fuel support.
