New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- The Delhi government on Thursday marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday through a series of public service and welfare initiatives under the month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan', including a mega blood donation camp, an organ donation pledge campaign, the launch of a workers' facilitation centre and a gig workers' rest area, besides a 108-Kundiya Yajna and special musical tributes by school and college students.
2,080 blood units collected
A mega blood donation camp was organised at Thyagaraj Stadium, where Chief Minister Rekha Gupta herself donated blood and appealed to Delhi residents to participate in the campaign. A total of 2,080 units of blood were collected at the camp. Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Cabinet ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries were present at the event. Gupta said the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan', being observed from September 17 to October 17 on the occasion of Modi's birthday, was inspired by his 25 years of public life and aimed at strengthening the spirit of service and public participation. "Blood donation is not merely the act of giving blood, but a noble pledge that strengthens the sacred bond of humanity, compassion and empathy," she said, urging those who could not donate blood on Thursday to voluntarily donate when eligible. Malhotra said, "Blood donation is 'Mahadaan' and there can be no greater act of service than saving the life of someone in need."
Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said blood donation and programmes related to health and public welfare would continue during the Seva Pakhwada.
Organ donation campaign launched
The government also launched an online organ donation pledge campaign, with Gupta herself taking the pledge and becoming the first person to register on the SOTTO website. The portal allows Delhi residents to pledge their organs online and automatically obtain a digital pledge certificate. "Organ donation reflects the true spirit of Seva Sankalp. One person's generous and noble pledge can save several lives," Gupta said, appealing to citizens to participate in the campaign. The government also made the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) operational at G.B. Pant Hospital. It said the move would strengthen coordination and promotion of organ and tissue donation and transplantation activities in Delhi. Health Minister Singh said the dedicated pledge portal would make the process more accessible and encourage wider participation.
13 Shramik Seva Kendras planned
At Shalimar Bagh, Gupta inaugurated a 'Namo Shramik Seva Kendra' and a Gig Workers' Rest Area on Vishwakarma Day. The centre will provide workers assistance with registration and renewal, document verification, application status, welfare schemes and claims under one roof.
"Workers have built Delhi with their own hands, it is now the government's responsibility to ensure their convenience," Gupta said. Labour Minister Kapil Mishra said 13 Shramik Seva Kendras would be launched in the first phase and subsequently expanded across Delhi. Workers would also receive technical and foreign-language training aimed at opening employment opportunities abroad. The government said health vehicles would visit workplaces for regular check-ups and arrangements would be made for treatment if health problems are detected.
Yajna mark PM's birthday
Gupta also participated in a 108-Kundiya Yajna at Shri Khatu Shyam Delhi Dham in Alipur, where she prayed for Modi's good health, longevity and continued service to the nation.
