New Delhi, Sept. 19 -- Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday joined MCD staff and young volunteers of the Vrikshit Foundation in a cleanliness drive at Durlabh Nath Vatika in Shakurpur, urging residents to make cleanliness a shared responsibility.
The drive was organised as part of the "Swachhata Hi Sewa Pakhwada", being observed from September 17 to October 2 following directions from the LG Secretariat. MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, local councillors and civic officials were also present.
Sandhu interacted with volunteers and local residents and appreciated the participation of young people in cleaning the park through shramdaan. He said a cleaner Delhi required public participation and urged young residents to take ownership of their neighbourhoods.
While sanitation remains the responsibility of the MCD, the LG said citizens must also recognise their role in keeping public spaces clean. He urged people to avoid littering and make cleanliness part of their daily routine.
