India, July 22 -- In a bid to strengthen monsoon preparedness and improve coordination among civic agencies, the Delhi government has constituted District-Level Coordination Committees (DLCCs) in all 13 districts of the Capital to monitor and prevent waterlogging during and after the rainy season. The committees have been formed on the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and will oversee the implementation of monsoon preparedness measures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and inter-departmental coordination to ensure a swift response to waterlogging incidents. According to an order issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, each committee will be headed by the respective District Magistrate and will include representatives from the Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Cantonment Board, Delhi Traffic Police and power distribution companies BSES and TPDDL. The Additional District Magistrate will serve as the Member Secretary.
The committees will monitor desilting of drains, cleaning of bellmouths, deployment of temporary pumps, coordination at drain junctions and inspections of vulnerable waterlogging locations. They will also identify new waterlogging-prone spots and ensure timely resolution of issues through coordinated action among departments. Explaining the objective of the initiative, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, "The objective of these committees is to prevent waterlogging and minimise its impact through better coordination among various departments and agencies, so that public safety is ensured during the monsoon and civic services across Delhi continue without disruption." The move comes as the city continues to witness heavy monsoon showers, with the government aiming to improve on-ground preparedness and reduce disruptions caused by flooding, traffic congestion and drainage failures through closer coordination between all concerned agencies at the district level.
