New Delhi, July 10 -- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday appointed MLA Abhay Kumar Verma as the Chief Spokesperson of the Delhi government, while MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and Harish Khurana have been named government spokespersons. The appointments have come into effect immediately.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, the move aims to strengthen transparent, accountable and citizen-centric governance by ensuring timely dissemination of official information on government policies, decisions and public welfare initiatives.

The newly appointed Chief Spokesperson and spokespersons will present the Delhi government's authorised position on key issues, communicate official information related to policy decisions, development works and welfare schemes, and interact with the media on behalf of the government. They will also provide factual clarifications on government decisions whenever required and convey the government's perspective based on authorised inputs received from various departments.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the appointments are intended to establish a structured and credible communication mechanism between the government, citizens and the media. She said official and factual information regarding the government's initiatives would now be communicated in a more timely and organised manner.

Emphasising the importance of effective communication in a democratic system, the Chief Minister said transparent and authentic dissemination of information is an essential pillar of good governance. She added that the appointment of a Chief Spokesperson and spokespersons would further strengthen dialogue with citizens while ensuring that verified information about government policies, development initiatives and public welfare programmes reaches the public without delay.

The government said the new communication framework would help improve coordination with the

media and enhance public awareness about its decisions and welfare measures.
