New Delhi, May 14 -- Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday unveiled a series of measures aimed at conserving fuel and resources, aligning with an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid global uncertainty over energy supplies.
Announcing a three-month public campaign titled "Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan," Gupta said all Delhi government offices will adopt a two-day work-from-home system each week, while private firms will be encouraged to follow suit. Ministers, officials and staff, including the chief minister, will commute via Metro on Mondays, alongside a weekly voluntary no-vehicle day for residents.
Fuel use in government vehicles will be reduced by 20 per cent, lowering petrol and diesel limits from 250 and 200 litres to 200 and 160 litres. To offset the shift to public transport, employees' travel allowance will rise by 10 per cent. Gupta also announced a one-year suspension of official foreign visits and a halt on large government events for three months.
Office timings have been revised, with Delhi government offices operating from 10.30 am to 7 pm and municipal offices from 8.30 am to 5 pm. At least half of official meetings will be conducted online, and institutions will be urged to adopt virtual modes where feasible.
The measures aim to cut fuel imports and ease pressure on foreign exchange reserves, officials said.
