New Delhi, April 1 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has reported a substantial increase in property tax collection for the financial year 2025-26, with total revenue reaching Rs.3,116.62 crore a 46.12 per cent rise compared to Rs.2,132.89 crore collected in the previous fiscal year.

According to officials from the Assessment and Collection Department, the growth reflects improved compliance, strengthened enforcement measures, and a steady expansion of the taxpayer base.

The total number of taxpayers increased to 13.52 lakh from 11.33 lakh last year, registering a 19.36 per cent growth.

A key driver behind this surge has been the Property Tax Amnesty Scheme, Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO), which contributed Rs.1,236.03 crore to the overall collection. Over 2.06 lakh taxpayers availed the scheme, including 1.11 lakh new payers contributing Rs 448.89 crore. Unassessed properties identified via data sources boosted revenue, while action against defaulters intensified.
